Eisteddfod – Amgueddfa Corwen Museum http://www.corwenmuseum.org.uk Corwen Museum | Amgueddfa Corwen Fri, 19 May 2023 14:00:20 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.4 Eisteddfod Powys Exhibition at Corwen Museum /eisteddfod-powys-exhibition-at-corwen-museum/ Fri, 19 May 2023 14:00:20 +0000 /?p=930 The Eisteddfod Powys is coming back to Edeyrnion and Penllyn in October 2023 and, to promote this, and to celebrate the wonderful relationship there has been between Corwen and the Powys Eisteddfod, we have created a new exhibition telling this story.  We are grateful for funding for the exhibition through the Cadwyn Clwyd LEADER Fund.

The Exhibition will run until the end of October 2023 and the Powys Eisteddfod is being held in Bala on the 27th and 28th October.

Compositions Book from the 1789 Corwen Eisteddfod

This book contains the compositions entered in the first public Eisteddfod held at the New Inn Hotel Corwen (now the Owain Glyndwr Hotel), in 1789.

Commemorative mug from the National Eisteddfod Corwen, 1919

This mug commemorates the National Eisteddfod held in Corwen from 4th to 8th August 1919.  It was called the Victory Eisteddfod as it was the first Eisteddfod held following the end of the First World War.

Officer’s badge from the 1919 Corwen National Eisteddfod

This badge was worn by the Secretary of the Organising Committee of the National Victory Eisteddfod held in Corwen in 1919.

A wooden marquetry tray commemorating the National Eisteddfod held in Corwen in 1919

Wooden plaque inscribed “Yma y cynhaliwyd Eisteddfod Gyntaf Urdd Gobaith Cymru – 1929”.

This wooden plaque was commissioned in 1979 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first Urdd Eisteddfod which was held at the Pavilion, Corwen in 1929

Come and see our display of bardic chairs. /come-and-see-our-display-of-bardic-chairs/ Tue, 13 Aug 2019 17:40:08 +0000 /?p=617 We are exhibiting Chairs from the 1902 and 1926 Corwen Chair Eisteddfods and from the 1936 Powys Eisteddfod that was held in Corwen.  As a contrast, we also have the Chair from the 2009 Bala National Eisteddfod, which was not awarded because it was felt that the standard of poetry in the competitions was not high enough.  The 2009 Chair was made locally, in a workshop in Betws Gwerfyl Goch and is very different to the style of chair in the early 1900s.
